Memorial Services

Memorial Service for a loved one

A memorial service is an event which is held as an act of remembrance for someone who has died. As a result of the restrictions at funerals during the Covid-19 pandemic, many families have been unable to hold funeral services and wakes in the way they would have hoped. A memorial service is a way to address this.

A memorial service can take place in any location, it does not have to be at a Funeral or Crematorium Chapel. You might choose to hold a memorial service at a hired venue like a community room, hotel, pub or restaurant, at the graveside, a garden of remembrance, a religious location like a church, or you may decide to hold a memorial service in a private garden, public park or local beauty spot. All you need is the landowner’s permission.

A memorial service can coincide with the scattering of ashes, a birthday, anniversary, or it could be simply the most convenient time of year for everyone.

As a trained and experienced celebrant, I will work with you to understand what type of memorial service you would like. It could be formal or relaxed, traditional or celebratory. I will work with you and your venue to carry out a risk assessment to ensure it is safe, suitable and has the right sound equipment if required.

Your memorial service may include different people reading tributes, relating stories or experiences. You might want some music for some quiet reflection, a symbolic act e.g. the lighting of candles or a permanent act of remembrance, e.g. the planting of a tree or seasonal bulbs. Yo may want a poem or blessing read.

The memorial service will be co-create with you, I will officiate the memorial service in a respectful and dignified manor. The creation and delivery of a 30-45 minute memorial service will cost £190. The hire of venue and any additional equipment needed will be extra.

Grave Tending Services

After a burial or internment of ashes, many people find for various reasons, that they cannot tend to a loved-one’s grave in the way they would wish. It could be because they live far away from the grave, they are now physically unable to do the groundwork or their busy family and working life means they find it difficult to find the time. As well as a trained and experienced funeral celebrant, I can also look after and tend to a loved-one’s grave in the way that you want.
