What are the 5 Stages of Grief?
Grief takes it own time. Whilst there is much evidence for “the 5 stages of grief” that most people feel when living with loss or bereavement, everyone is different with how & for how long they experience each stage.
It is normal for people living with loss, grief & bereavement to experience feelings of 1) denial, 2) anger, 3) bargaining & 4) depression before reaching a degree of 5) acceptance.
Not only do these phases tend to be experienced for different lengths of time, but it is also not linear either. People can often get new feelings of anger long after feeling depressed or even after they thought they’d reached a feeling of acceptance. Grief is not a line, but often a tangle.
It is important to talk about how you are feeling. It is important for people to listen - and let you speak.
