Funeral Poem for a Fisherman

There are many funeral poems on the internet for fishermen, but nearly all are for sea fisherman, whereas the fishermen I often write funeral services for were anglers in local rivers, lakes or ponds. So, I decided to adapt a great poem called “Gone Fishin’” by Dalmar Pepper.

Gone Fishin’ by Dalmar Pepper

(adapted for the UK)

I’ve finished life’s chores assigned to me,
It’s time to go alone and be.
I’m going with my fishing rod
To a place where I’ll find God.

Where every day is a day to fish,
To fill your heart with every wish.
Don’t worry, or feel sad for me,
I’m fishin’ under a favourite tree.

We’ll miss each other for a while,
But you will come and bring your smile.
That won’t be long, you will see,
Till we’re together you and me.

To all of those that think of me,
Be happy as I let it be.
If others wonder why I’m missin’
Just tell ’em I’ve gone fishin’
